Hello –
Wedding, graduation, and reunion season are right around the corner. Everyone is FINALLY emerging from the brutal winter we all just experienced. After months of cabin fever, Minnesotans everywhere are eager to spend as much time outside as possible.
But before you write off your indoor workouts, consider what you’re giving up and how it could impact your health. There are significant benefits to training in a group, under the guidance of a professional. By narrowing your fitness focus to just one activity like running or cycling, you become more susceptible to painful injuries. And even though spring is here, we know not to expect great weather every single day.
Here are 3 reasons why you want to complement your outdoor workouts with indoor workouts:
1.) Group fitness classes provide motivation, accountability and opportunities to socialize: Do you honestly think you’d push just as hard on your own as you would surrounded by 15 others, plus an instructor cheering you on? When you commit to a workout class, you’re held accountable to do your best and complete the whole 45 or 60 minutes. The best part is the extra energy you get from connecting with like minded people in a positive environment. Sign up for at least one class a week to keep this momentum alive.
2) Prevent injuries and fitness plateaus: Outdoor runs and cycling are great for staying active and burning calories. But did you know about 80% of runners are injured every year due to overuse? The most common repetitive injuries include Achilles Tendinitis, neck and lower back pain. It’s important to add strength training and mobility to your favorite form of cardio. Remember: cardio is only one part of the fitness equation. You need to strike a balance to keep reaching your goals and prevent injuries. Incorporate at least one yoga and one APT or CrossFit class into your schedule each week.
3.) Plan for the weather: If you live in Minneapolis, you know the weather isn’t always reliable. But The FIRM is. Even if the sun isn’t shining outside, we can guarantee sunny spirits on the inside. You don’t want to skip your workout just because it’s raining. Always have a backup plan to make sure you’re staying active despite the temperature. Find a membership option that makes sense for your summer schedule.
Our goal is to support you in creating a healthy and happy life. Balance is key for enjoying the body you’re in. Use these 3 tips for staying fit and injury-free this summer and beyond.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns or feedback.
