Our History

How we got to where we are today.

Throughout the decades a lot of ups and downs have happened to our family in fitness but we’re all the stronger for it.

A Friendship Begins

1985
Kelly Miyamoto joins Teri McLean and David Gray in opening an aerobics studio off of Harmon Place named David’s Body Shop.

Call Us The FIRM

1986
Inclusivity drives a change of name, sparked from a fashion magazine brainstorming session, and “The FIRM: A Workout Studio” is born.

Earning Our Cred

1987
David wins the first ever International Aerobics Federation competition sponsored by Crystal Light and our teams followed suit.

Lights… Camera…

1990
Kelly begins hosting the weekly fitness spot on the KARE 11 morning show for six years, exploring the world of fitness throughout the Twin Cities.

Saved by Poland

January 1993
Twiddling our thumbs in a temporary location by Hennepin-Lake Liquor, the Polish Community Center provided by way of a lady named Loretta.

From KOOL 108 dance promotions and pioneering pride parades we found our permanent home off of 2nd Ave for our fitness future.
